Event Rules & Conditions In keeping with the spirit of the event, the number of formal rules which govern the race has been kept to a minimum. It is hoped that participants will continue to compete in a sporting manner so this can remain the case in the future. It is expected that participants will respect fellow competitors, race officials, and, most importantly, the environment through which they will travel. General Conditions * Safety is crucial - any infringement of event rules by competitors or support crew may incur time penalties or disqualification. * Competitors must render assistance to any fellow competitors in distress or any form of danger. Your time will be adjusted accordingly. * Competitors must register in one of the race categories according to age, gender and number in team. * Entries will only be accepted and confirmed once full entry fee has been received prior to Wednesday 21st September 2011. Late entries may be accepted with the discretion of the Race Committee, but will incur a $20 late fee. * Competitors will not be able to start the event unless all team members have signed a disclaimer (available at Race Registration or download here. *Any costs incurred by the race committee shall be retained if any individual or team withdraws from the race after entries have closed (administrative fee of $20 per person). * The Race Committee reserves the right to reject or withdraw any team or entry. * Participants under 18 years of age must have written parental consent. * Each competitor/team must have a support crew. * All team members/competitors and support crew should be familiar with the course and all information on this website relating to the event conditions and requirements. * Competition stages Day 1 Leg 4 & Day 2 Leg 3 (both the mountain bike rides) of the event traverse lands that are privately owned or managed and that entry onto these stages prior to the event may result in entry being voided. * All mandatory equipment must be carried. * Race numbers are to be worn on the outside of all clothing at all times.
Run * First Aid pack is recommended. * Running Pack (or bumbag) - This should be fairly small, hang low on your back, and have a waist strap and a sternum strap. A water bottle holster on the waist band is a good idea. * Water/energy food as required must be carried. There is no reliable water source in the park and there are no aid stations! * Long sleeve thermal top and bottom are recommended. * Head covering is recommended. * Waterproof jackets are recommended. * Shoes. The run has been done in everything from walking boots to racing flats without socks. However, please ensure that your footwear is going to be durable enough for the run over rocks, tree roots and mud and will be comfortable if wet for the duration of the run. While the choice of shoes is very personal, the modern generation of specific trail running shoes are very popular and seem to perform well. Gaiters are not generally worn, however, watch out for snakes.
Road Cycle & Mountain Bike * Single bikes only. * Hard shell helmets must be worn. * Obey all road rules. * There is to be no drafting of other competitors or vehicles. * All repairs are to be made by the cyclist. Penalties apply for outside assistance. * As repairs must be carried out by the cyclist, spare tyres/tubes, a pump and basic repair kit should be carried. * Support crew are not to follow behind competitors and should follow the directions provided in this guide. * Food and water as required. * Two drink bottle cages recommended. * Clothing for a variety of weather conditions (e.g. arm warmers, leg warmers). * Use sensible wheel and tyre combinations, noting that there are sections of the course that may be subject to road works and potholes. Replacement wheels will incur a time penalty. * Aero bars and aero wheels are allowed and would be an advantageous (for the road cycle).
Kayak * Your boat and your abilities should be able to handle sea-like conditions! * BUOYANCY VESTS ARE COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT AND MUST BE WORN BY ALL COMPETITORS REGARDLESS OF WHAT TYPE OF CRAFT YOU ARE PADDLING. Paddle floats on the back of ski's are NOT satisfactory. * Single kayaks/surf skis only. * All craft must have fitted buoyancy. * Different craft may be used on different legs, however changing mid leg is not permitted. * Wash hanging is to be avoided while kayaking (on Day 1). * Helmets are not required. * If a rudder is fitted to the kayak, it is advisable to be of the kick-up variety rather than the fixed sort. There could be low water levels. * Spray decks should be worn if you don't like stopping to empty water, particularly on Day 2 when more exposed to coastal off-shore conditions. * A tube and bladder system is recommended for drinking. * Repair tape and sponge - just in case. |
